The Bruce D. Mitchell Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to honor Dr. Mitchell’s many contributions to the St. Andrew Society of Tallahassee. Dr. Mitchell was a founding member of the Society in 1976 and served as our second President, Treasurer, Piper, Newsletter Editor, and Educator. He more than exemplified the goals and ideals of the Society in his love of Scotland and America and in his service to others. Alba go bragh!

A scholarship applicant must:

1. Be a member of the St. Andrew Society of Tallahassee or reside in Leon or bordering counties.

2. Use the grant to increase his/her knowledge, or to contribute to the body of knowledge, of Scottish history and traditions; or to improve his/her knowledge or performance skills of Scottish music, dance, or arts.

3. Explain how the use will benefit the Applicant and the community at large and will reflect the goals and purpose of the St. Andrew Society.

4. State what the grant will be used for and how, where, and when it will be used.

5. Demonstrate a level of maturity or skill that the Scholarship Committee deems to be appropriate to the activity for which the grant will be used.

6. Complete the Application Form provided by the Committee and submit it to said Committee by the published date.

7. Attach to the completed Application Form a Statement of Explanation, composed and written solely by the Applicant, not to exceed two type written pages in length. The composition must address requirements 2, 3, 4, and 5 listed above.

8. Certify that the Applicant will use the Grant, if received, as described in article 7 above, or return the grant monies to the Committee within 11 days after the course was scheduled to begin.

9. Agrees to appear before a meeting or event of the St. Andrew Society after completing the course or activity for which the grant was awarded to demonstrate what was gained.

10. Appear before the Committee if requested.
